SGA Updates

Dear Emory Student Body,

We hope you enjoyed the winter break and are excited about the semester ahead. For many of us, this will be our final semester as Emory undergraduates. For others, this spring – like each new semester – represents another essential move forward on our academic, professional, and personal journeys.

Wherever you are in your Emory experience, your Student Government Association is representing and advocating for you. SGA is introducing “SGA Updates” – a new feature to highlight SGA’s work on building bridges from students to resources, students to students, and students to the administration.

SGA Updates will enhance transparency and keep you better informed about SGA’s activity and advocacy. These updates will help you be more engaged with your student government by summarizing its progress on existing and planned initiatives.

Below are selected highlights of the 58th SGA initiatives. If you have questions, please contact sga@emory.edu, visit our website, and follow us on Instagram (@sgaemory).

Best wishes,
Abigail May Dubinski 25B - President, 58th Emory Student Government Association
Pranay Timmaraju Mamileti 26B - Executive Vice President, 58th Emory Student Government Association

SGA Website

SGA’s Communications Committee partnered with Campus Life to design, develop, and launch a new website, which went live in November 2024. New and updated content includes SGA’s mission, history, contacts, structure, initiatives, involvement opportunities, and information on supplemental funding for clubs and governing documents. The committee will continue to enhance the website during the spring semester.

Governing Documents Major Reform Ad Hoc Committee

SGA’s Governing Documents Major Reform Ad Hoc Committee is conducting comprehensive reviews of SGA governing documents, which have not undergone major updates in several years. The goal is to make SGA's internal operations more efficient to serve the student body better. The committee completed and passed revisions for the Code of Elections in December and the Finance Code in January. Final revisions of the Rules of the Legislature are underway and will be presented for vote in an upcoming legislative session. The committee will continue to review the SGA Constitution, SGA Code, Regulations of the Judiciary, and Executive Agency Code.

Peer Advocate Office

SGA is finalizing plans for the Peer Advocate Office (PAO), a new student-led initiative. Through the PAO, undergraduate students serving as peer advocates will direct students in need of support to the appropriate university resources on Emory’s Atlanta campus and advocate on behalf of students as needed for access to resources. The Peer Advocate Office is scheduled to launch this spring semester.

Open Expression Student Committee

The Open Expression Student Committee is working with university administration to enhance the Respect for Open Expression Policy. The committee recently conducted a survey to assess students’ opinions on the policy and shared results with key stakeholders. The committee is also working to understand and address issues of institutional trust. This semester, the committee will facilitate listening sessions to better capture student feedback.

Health Access Machine

SGA’s Wellbeing Committee is finalizing arrangements for an initiative based on student advocacy and collaboration by Oxford and Atlanta campus students. The Health Access Machine is a vending machine offering accessible, low-cost personal health-care products for students. The machines are scheduled to arrive this spring semester – one on the Atlanta campus and one on the Oxford campus.

Connection to Atlanta

This initiative aims to enhance the connection between students and Atlanta by providing free transportation to key locations in the city. We plan to launch a pilot program in Spring 2025 to help students easily explore Atlanta.

Oxford-Atlanta Club Fair

The Oxford-Atlanta Relations Committee is planning a club fair in March to expose Oxford students to Atlanta campus recognized student organizations before the end of the school year, helping to ease their transition and giving them a better understanding of what organizations they might want to join. At this fair, Atlanta campus organizations will get the chance to send representatives and have booths to educate Oxford students about their mission and work.
